Short pole connected to a mini tripod, stabilized with sand bags.
Because of smooth start and stop of MECHA, there is little force to move the support base, eliminating chances of misaligment.
Life is much easier than with a manual rotator, which users need to rotate the head manually (with extreme care) from rear doors multiple times.

A suction cup mount can also be used.

Tip from Sam Rohn: window or sunroof rig would have required more shots from different positions to mask out the rig and its shadow.

Without an automated rotator, a horizontal pole will be an easy alternative. Of course, once can use automated rotator with a horizontal pole to make life even easier.
